The Bastion Americana Freedom Journal, Issue VII: 29 August, 1943
The audacious introduction of the Heartland Heroes sent waves through every level of American society, hammering a deeper schism into a divided populace. And the Journal, already determined to undermine the U.S. government and the Office, grabbed ahold of the story and took off running.
This is issue VII of the Bastion Americana Freedom Journal. For more information, please refer to the analyses in the Archives..
Content warnings: Violence, death, creeps, Nazis, gaslighting.
The Garrisonian Party’s response to the Heartland Heroes’ debut was immediate. Within hours of Deputy Regional Inspector Malloy’s presentation to the press and elected representatives, every Hero’s identity was leaked to the Journal.

THE FACES BEHIND THE MASKS REVEALED!
THE ‘HEARTLAND HEROES’: FOREIGNERS, SPIES, KILLERS, DISSIDENTS, AND UN-AMERICANS
Washington, DC – The foul mercenary cut-throats dubbed ‘Heroes’ by the corrupt men in Washington may no longer hide behind their corporate masks as they commit acts of treason and murder across these United States at the beck and call of their foreign puppeteers. At great expense, and great risk, the Journal has obtained the names of the men behind the masks. This sorry collection of criminals, immigrants, seditionists, apologists, and intellectuals does not deserve to carry the title of 'Heroes,' despite how they are paraded down Main Streets all across America, waving a flag they disgrace every day.
Peter Gimball “Starpower” – born Petros Gevorgyan, he abandoned his honest, God-fearing farm family in California to work among fellow filth pedaling anti-American pornography in the film industry. MGM Studios could not make a profit off of his meager skills of portrayal, but ever money-grubbing, Gevorgyan agreed to take up their projection guns and kill for cash, using a vicious man-eating lion as a terror weapon.
John Calderone “Lincoln Landstrider” - John Calderone was expected only to do an honest day’s work on the General Motors assembly line when he was tasked with building this walking tank. Instead, he secreted a code into its engine that is required to activate it. Rather than lose money reverse-engineering his blackmail, GM acquiesced to this schemer's demands, handing him the control of one of the most dangerous weapons ever developed and daring to call this malcontent, criminal, and Negro a 'Hero.'
Gunnar Agnarsson “Blizzardier” - despite a sordid past as a socialist, an intellectual, an atheist, and a foreigner who swears to an alien flag, General Foods saw fit to place their blizzard gun into Agnarsson's hands. The suspect nature of the Swede's relationship with Gimball has raised many questions.
Archibald Bolton “Blue Bulb” - Former neighbors recall Bolton's violent, dope-fueled outbursts against his late wife and his frequent, debilitating debts. Despite, or due to, the lethal power of his lightning suit, Bolton's arrest records were expunged on orders of the Office prior to his joing the ‘Heartland Heroes.’ – (cont'd p. 2)
This article includes a portrait sketch of a mustached man smoking a cigar while wearing an armored suit. The caption reads as follows:
“Above: police sketch artist rendition of John Calderone.”
Per ADA, Mister Calderone has never been the suspect of a crime or the subject of any interrogation. The sketch though accurate, would not have been made for the purposes of any legitimate law enforcement activity.

QUENTIN CASTANO, A.K.A. CAPTAIN GARAND: CRIPPLE, DISGRACE, MEXICAN, AND DESERTER
Laredo, TX – Many True Americans have rejoiced at the sight of Captain Garand, the masked cowboy who leads the 'Heartland Heroes' fearlessly into parades and bond drives. With his Lone Ranger costume and Made In America diesel-powered arm, he looks like just the man any father would be pleased to see his daughter marry or son become. But, like so many things tied to the Office, even the fair Captain is drowning in deception.
Quentin Castano, the official behind that mask, is recalled by the Webb County deputies, the men who knew him best during his raucous years vagabonding through Laredo, Texas, as a bitter, violent, Mexican drunk. He was more than likely to smash bottle over a white man's head than share a drink with him, and he called no church home.
In fact, it was only by ruling of a magistrate that Castano didn't drink himself to death. After a powerful bender, where Castano was noted to have broken a white man's jaw, urinated in a public park, and used obscenities, he was given the choice to enlist in the U.S. Army or serve on a chain gang for at least - (cont'd p. 4)

Bureau for Cataloguing and Reference Analysis:
The information presented regarding the names of the ‘Heartland Heroes’ group is accurate. It is unknown where specifically the Journal accessed it, but it was stored in multiple locations, including private, corporate, governmental, military, and Most Secret. One analyst described the ‘Heroes’ as being ‘more fingers than pie,’ and thus, narrowing down any leak regarding them would take a large investment of manpower and resources.
Many of the attributes listed under Misters Gimball, Calderone, Bolton, and Gunnarsson’s names are neither crimes nor causes for concern. Of special note, GM denied any ‘blackmail’ with regard to its interactions with Mister Calderone, and Mister Gunnarson has not been an active member of any socialist organization in the U.S. ever, nor abroad in over twenty years.
It should be noted that Sergeant Castaño’s name is properly spelled with the tilde above the ‘n,’ and the Journal has neglected it either out of ignorance or as a passive-aggressive insult.
Quintin Castaño’s criminal record was known by the Office long before he took his vows. His time in service has been marked by extreme sacrifice and bravery. His current and former commanding officers have noted him as an exemplary official.
HYDRA intercepts authenticated by Analyst First Class Tremblay confirm that every member of the Heartland Heroes has had the standard assassination contract placed on their lives by the Abwehr. A recommendation for increased personal security has been submitted to Deputy Regional Inspector Malloy.
The True American Defense Fund is a federally tax-exempt organization registered in Maryland. The address listed in its filings is a warehouse purchased by a ‘Harold Schmidt’ in cash from a Crown Pharmaceuticals property auction six months ago. The space has been vacant since 1929. The name and identifying information given were false. Neither Crown Pharmaceuticals nor the property auction house have any further information about the sale or the buyer.
Information regarding the the tax-exempt status of the Fund has been forwarded to the Secret Service and the Internal Revenue Service. Their involvement and entanglement with the Journal appears to be a clear violation of the Revenue Act of 1934 and its ban on lobbying from tax exempt organizations.
No bank accounts have yet been uncovered linked to the Fund, but agents from the Secret Service and the F.B.I. are informed of the investigation and are poised to freeze or seize Fund assets as they are found.
No appreciable progress has been made regarding the investigation into the identity of ‘Abe Allison.’
