The Bastion Americana Freedom Journal, Issue V: 15 August, 1943
The fifth issue of the Bastion Americana Freedom Journal pulls back the curtain on the ill-fated Battle of Sapporo and the Office’s classified involvement. With the Bloody Dawn still rising every morning, the revelation that the Office tried to cover up a giant monster capable of wiping out a city shatters what little support they had left.
This issue contains major spoilers from Hercules Chen, Zero Hunter: Toroka VS Mecha-Tsuyo.
This is issue V of the Bastion Americana Freedom Journal. For more information, please refer to the analyses of Issues I, II, III, and IV.
Content warnings: Violence, death, creeps, Nazis, gaslighting.
When an event so great as the Toroka incident occurs, there is no hope of keeping it secret. Before the Office could prepare a public report regarding the creature and their involvement in the Battle of Sapporo, the fifth issue of the Bastion Americana Freedom Journal was released. Outrage regarding the Office’s supposed assistance of the Japanese military was impossible to suppress and a Congressional hearing was called for the coming weeks, summoning Printmaster Arachnae Bellegarde to Washington.
As sentiment against the Office grew more hostile, members of the Garrisonian Party grew bolder. Parades, protests, editorials, sermons, fundraisers, gatherings, and lectures proclaiming Garrisonian ties popped up by the dozens, all over the country. More and more people, began openly wearing their G pins both in the public and private spheres, from factory workers to police officers, from pastors to scientists, from executives to politicians.

FREAKISH CREATURE ATTACKS THE JAPANESE MAINLAND;
THE OFFICE BETRAYS U.S.A., SIDES WITH TOJO AGAINST GOD'S WILL
San Francisco, California – Reports coming out of Japan indicate that the massive calamity that devastated one of that foul nation's largest cities last month was the result of a massive animal known only as 'Toroka.' The creature's nature is murky, though many informants are telling the Journal that the beast was a quarter-mile in length with bulletproof skin and a dragon's breath of infernal flames.
Whether this monster was an act of God's will to punish the heathen cowards or a horrible weapon of the Japs' own creation that went awry, what is certain, and shocking, is that the foreign-controlled Office for the Cataloging of Unusual Occurrences was directly involved in the chaos and took drastic steps to save innumerable Japanese lives.
According to our sources, pilots from the Office for the Cataloging of Unusual Occurrences fought a desperate battle using irreplaceable resources to help the sworn enemy of the United States of America. The city of Sapporo was devastated by the attack, despite the Office's best efforts to save the Japanese military might, industrial power, and foodstuff production in the region.
Initial reports claim that a massive tidal wave demolished the city, while a rash of strange corpses washing up on the Chinese coast seemed to point to an outbreak of virulent disease. Neither the Office's spokeswoman nor the Japanese are willing to disclose to the Journal the truth of what happened on that day in July, or the origin of the 'Toroka' creature. Their canned, condescending responses are suspiciously similar.
In the end, it does not matter why this well-deserved calamity befell the Japanese. What matters is that this foreign-run Office has betrayed the memories of thousands of slaughtered American seamen, pilots, and Marines by acting in cahoots with their cowardly attackers.
“The Office has never held America, or justice, as a priority,” Nedrick Garver explained. “Their motivations are not intended to serve our interests - (cont'd p. 2)

SCIENTISTS, PRIESTS AGREE: 'TOROKA IS THE ANCIENT WORLD RETURNED TO SET US RIGHT'
This article includes an inaccurate illustration of a prehistoric creature with the following caption:
”Above: The ancient Megalosaurus, a long-extinct monster scientists claim is related to Toroka.”
Detroit, MI – Despite often being at odds with regard to their philosophies, this week, upon revelation of the Toroka creature's obfuscated nature, a panel of renowned scientists and men of the cloth came to an agreement regarding the beast.
“What is clear is that this world is not in order,” world-famous radio priest Father Charles Coughlin decreed. “God's will cannot be ignored, and the heathen Japs paid the price for their sins and negligence of Him.”
Charles Goethe, spokesman for the Human Betterment Foundation, added: “It is natural that a dinosaur that ruled this planet before it fell into disarray would be His vessel to set it back to His ideal state.” - (cont'd p. 5)

An analyst has included the following note:
PAPER SPECTRO ANALYSIS:
- 70% RED PINE
- 15% BIRCH
- 8% ASHE (sic)
- 7% other
RESULTS - NORTH CENTRAL MIDWEST,
GREAT LAKES REGION?
A spectrographic analysis of the pulp used in the Journal’s production indicates a mixture of wood consistent with trees found in the Great Lakes area of the continental United States. Regional inspectors have been appraised of these findings.
As per usual, the events of the Battle of Sapporo have been twisted and manipulated. Nowhere within the article does the Journal mention the specific efforts of Forward Attack Squadron F, nor of the loss of civilian life that the creature caused.
Those ‘scientists’ and ‘priests’ quoted in the article about Toroka’s nature are hardly authorities. Anti-Semite and rabble rouser Father Charles Coughlin was prominently featured. He was infamously recently censored by the Catholic Church and taken off the airwaves by order of President Roosevelt. Charles Goethe is a trustee of the Human Betterment Foundation, a rabid eugenicist, and a real estate developer. Neither man has any background in science or accepted church dogma to give a proper analysis of the animal, much less to blame its existence on human moral failings.
The ‘tips’ for finding Communists are shocking only in their ineffectiveness. Although one may discover a Communist in their midst, it would only be coincidental. They are guaranteed to determine that one’s neighbors are Jewish, suffragists, cannabis users, federal agents, or intellectuals.
Pinkerton Review Services is registered as a private security company independent of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency. Its president and founder is listed as Arthur Kurtis Kerper, a former longtime Pinkerton agent. There are no active state or federal investigations involving Mister Kerper but references to him and P.R.S. have been found in numerous closed or redacted kidnapping, assault, and jury tampering cases.
After an independent review of HYDRA logs, Analyst First Class Tremblay has determined that the Abwehr is not transmitting the content of Journal articles via radio. These findings indicate that the articles are either written domestically or transferred physically. With the weekly printing schedule, the first option seems most likely.
